In the dynamic world of Indian cricket, one name that has been making waves is Swastik Surender Chikara. Born on April 3, 2005, in the vibrant city of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Swastik is not just a budding cricketer but a symbol of talent and determination.
Early Life and Family Background
Swastik comes from a family deeply rooted in athleticism. His father, Surender Chhikara, a sub-inspector with the Delhi Police, was a long-distance runner. Adding to the family's sprinting legacy are Swastik's elder sisters, Savita and Sheel, who excelled in 100m and 200m sprints.
Growing up in Ataur Nangla, Ghaziabad, Swastik's journey into cricket began with daily trips to a cricket academy, 16 km away from his home in Muradnagar, accompanied by his dedicated mother, Sudha Chhikara.

Swastik first gained international attention at the age of 16 when he set a jaw-dropping world record in a 40-over match for Mahi Cricket Club. Scoring a phenomenal 585 runs in just 167 deliveries, including an astounding 52 sixes and 55 fours, he surpassed the previous record held by South Africa’s Shane Dadswell.
Education and Cricketing Prowess
Swastik, an alumnus of Aster Public School, Greater Noida, juggled his academic pursuits with his cricketing aspirations. Despite not attending college, he achieved the milestone of completing his 12th grade.
In the inaugural UPT20 league in August-September 2023, representing Meerut Mavericks, Swastik emerged as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer, amassing 494 runs at an impressive average of 70.57 and a strike rate of 173.33. His stellar performance included three centuries and two half-centuries.
List A Debut and IPL Journey
Swastik made his List A debut for Uttar Pradesh against Himachal Pradesh in the 2023-2024 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Opening the batting, he marked his debut with a century, leading his team to a convincing victory.
In December 2023, Swastik's talent was acknowledged when he was acquired by Delhi Capitals (DC) for a sum of INR 20 lakh (USD 24,100 approx) during the 2024 Indian Premier League player auction.
Family Support and Coaching
Swastik's father, Surender Chhikara, not only works as a sub-inspector but also runs a cricket academy named SS Nalanda Cricket Hostel in Ghaziabad. The academy, equipped with 12 practice wickets, served as Swastik's training ground, reflecting the unwavering support of his family in his cricketing journey.
